Cheese Crusted Salmon Potato baked with Bechamel Sauce

Here is an amazing mouthwatering continental fish recipe. In this recipe, Salmon is baked on a potato bed . Most of the people including myself love this combination very well. This is perfect for weekend dinner with some salad. Its also very easy to prepare and its taste is just divine. Here I have used Bechamel Sauce and herbs which make it tasty and flavourful. Cheese crust give it a beautiful top layer. So, in this dish you will get carbohydrate and protein together. So, its almost a complete meal. Lets go through the recipe.

Preparation Time : 20 minutes

Bake Time       : 40 minutes

Cook Time       : 7 minutes

Serves            : 4 people

Ingredients:

  • Potato- 3(medium size)
  • Salmon fillet(on the skin)- 2 pieces(large)
  • Onion- 1(large)
  • Grated cheese- 1 cup
  • Garlic(Peeled)- 5 cloves
  • All purpose flour- 1/3 cup
  • Salted butter- 30 gram
  • Olive oil- 3 tablespoon
  • Full cream milk- 1 cup
  • Dried Oregano- 1 tablespoon
  • Dried Basil leaves- 1 tablespoon
  • Chilli fakes- 1 tablespoon
  • Crushed Black pepper- 1 tablespoon
  • Salt to taste

How to Make:

  1. Scratch the potato skin and Leave the potatoes in water for 5-7 minutes.
  2. Peel the onion and slice it. Then Crush the onion lightly with your hand. Keep it aside.
  3. Cut the Potatoes now into medium thick slices. Leave it again in cold water.
  4. Chop the garlic cloves almost finely.
  5. Mix all the herbs and spices with a spoon. Seasoning  mix is ready. Keep aside.
  6. Now take out the potato slices from water and place them in a baking dish.
  7. Marinate the potato slices with salt, olive oil, half of garlic, and half of seasoning.
  8. Then add onion and marinate with potato.
  9. Bake the potatoes at 180°C for 20 minutes in a preheated oven.
  10. Now marinate the fish fillets with salt and pinch of seasoning.
  11. In the meantime, I will make the Bechamel sauce. Take a pan and allow it to heat.
  12. Add butter and let it melt.
  13. Add leftover garlic and saute it well for a minute.
  14. Add flour and saute for 2-3 minutes in medium heat.
  15. Then add milk and mix until it becomes smooth. Make sure that the flame is low.
  16. Add salt to taste and 3/4 tablespoon of seasoning in the sauce. Mix well. Switch off the flame. Keep it aside.
  17. After baking the potatoes, take out the dish from oven.
  18. Place the marinated salmon on the half baked potatoes.
  19. Spread the Bechamel sauce over it.
  20. Cover the top with grated cheese.
  21. Sprinkle leftover seasoning over it.
  22. Again bake at 180°C for 20 minutes.
  23. After that remove the dish from oven. Cut into 4 pieces.
  24. Serve it hot.

My Tip:

  • I have used Salmon fish on the skin. If you want you can use skinless fish as well.
  • Any fish fillets like Bhetki, Hake, Cod, Basa can be used instead of Salmon.
  • Here any processed cheese can be used. I have used Gouda cheese (Dutch local cheese).
  • Spice amount can be adjusted as per your taste.
  • Instead of potato, sweet potato can also be used. That also goes very well.
