Plum Date Chutney | Zero Oil Chutney | Sweet & Sour Plum Chutney

It is a easy "Zero Oil"  sweet & sour chutney where I have used some Indian spices those make it really flavourful. As it is a Zero oil recipe, You can consider it as a healthy recipe. It can be used in chat or use as dip for fries. I also like to have this chutney with rice & dal, Khichdi, roti, paratha etc.

Cook Time       50 minutes

Serves            : 15 people

Ingredients:

  • Sugar- 3/4 cup
  • Salt to taste
  • Chilli Flakes- 1/2 teaspoon

  • Dates(Chopped & Seeded)- 8~10 pieces
  • Lemon Zest- 1 teaspoon
  • Vinegar- 1 tablespoon
  • Roasted Cumin powder- 1 teaspoon
  • Nutmeg Powder- 1/4 teaspoon

How to Make:

  1. Take the washed plum. Then deseed & cut into quarters.
  2. Transfer into a sauce pan where you want to make the chutney.
  3. Then add salt to taste and allow it to get soft. Cover and cook for 10 minutes in medium heat.
  4. After that, you can notice Plum is getting soft & releases lots of juice. Now try to mash the plum with backside of  the spoon as possible.
  5. Add Sugar and give it a good mix. Cover and allow it to cook in medium heat for 10 minutes.
  6. Add chilli flakes, black salt and grated ginger. Give it a good mix & cover to cook for 5 minutes.

  8. Add lemon zest followed by vinegar. Mix well & cook for 10 minutes in low heat.
  9. Now finish with roasted cumin powder & nutmeg powder.
  10. Give a final stir. Allow it to cool to room temperature.
  11. Once it cools down, transfer into a  sterilized & dry jar .

My Tip:

  • Always use a dry spoon to take out(It will keep it fresh).
  • You can store the chutney in fridge upto 6 months.
  • Take good quality fresh plum to make your chutney great.
